Sun Baby Intro

The Baby Sun is the sun of Teletubbyland that shines in the sky and makes baby noises. Her face is live-action and the sun is performed by Jess Smith when she was 9 months old. This sun giggles and laughs being excited during any Magical Event or watching the Teletubbies do funny and silly things.

Some fans wonder why would the creators put the baby in the sun because the sun is a baby.

Sun

Jess Smith was the Sun Baby in the original series. In the new series, the Sun Baby is played by a girl called Berry.

Trivia

  • In late 2014, Jess Smith revealed herself as being the Sun Baby. Before then, it was rumoured that the Sun Baby was played by another Jess Smith, who turned out to be an older American actress.
  • According to Jess, while she was being weighed at the hospital, the producers of Teletubbies were there on the same day looking for smiley babies, and that is how she ended up playing the role.
  • When the new series was beginning to air on television, a photo of Jess the old Sun Baby with Berry the new Sun Baby was released. When fans saw this photo many assumed (and some still do) that Berry was Jess Smith's daughter. However this is not true. Jess has never said before that Berry is her daughter. There are also photos of Berry with her real mother at the premiere of the new series and a Teletubbies toy fair.
  • The Sun Baby is usually shown giggle at the beginning of the Magical Events. However, in some of the early 1997 episodes, there were some instances where the Sun Baby was not shown, e.g. In Painting with Hands and Feet with the Dancing Bear and Playing in the Rain with the Three Ships. The Sun Baby was never shown giggling at the beginning of the Lion and Bear (both versions). The Animal Parade and Little Bo Peep are the only Magical Events on which the Sun is always shown giggling.
