Humpty Dumpty is the 17th episode of the original series. It first aired on 22nd April 1997.

Plot[]

The Teletubbies are eating Tubby Toast inside the Home Hill when a voice trumpet rises and says the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty. The Teletubbies join in and they end up falling from the table! The Magic Windmill spins and the Teletubbies watch as Po receives a musical transmission featuring King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys singing a jazz version of Humpty Dumpty. Back in Teletubbyland, Po has a falling-down day. She falls out of bed, she falls from the table and she falls over at the control panel! Even when playing with Laa-Laa and her ball, Po falls over. Later, Tinky Winky is watching the rabbits when Po falls off her scooter. So Tinky Winky falls over. Laa-Laa appears and falls over as well. Finally, Dipsy comes along and he falls over as well! All the Teletubbies have fallen over! Suddenly, the Magic Windmill starts spinning and the Teletubbies watch The Tap Dancing Teddy Bear before the sun screams again. The Teletubbies do The Jumping Dance before Tubby Bye-Bye.

Featuring: King Pleasure & The Biscuit Boys, The Pupils of Chuckery Infants School, Walsall.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode to feature the first extended version of The Jumping Dance. The other two episodes were Swimming with Stephanie and Ned's Potatoes.
  • This is also the first episode where Dipsy wears his bib.
  • The Humpty Dumpty opening segment was featured in the VHS Nursery Rhymes and the audio tape Fun with the Teletubbies.
  • The Po's Falling Down Day segment was featured in the VHS Here Come the Teletubbies. But for some unknown reason, it was removed from the US version.
    • Also, after the narrator says: "Oh dear! Now all the Tubbies have fallen over", a different Sun Baby clip is shown and it cuts straight to the Who Spilled the Tubby Custard? segment.
  • The German version of this episode is called "Osterbasteln" (Translation: Easter Crafts) and has a different TV transmission video.
  • The Spanish (Valencian Catalan) version of this episode is called "Boats" and has a different TV transmission video.
  • The episode was never fully dubbed in French. However, the Po's Falling Down Day segment was dubbed in this language exclusively for the VHS Here Come the Teletubbies.
  • There is a rare Windmill clip after the Humpty Dumpty segment, this animation appears to be the Original animation as seen in the intro and many other early 1997 episodes, but with an added window. (See pic below)
  • This is the only episode to feature the modified window version of the Original animation. In all other early 1997 episodes however, the Original animation is shown without a window. The modified window version of the Original animation is similar to the modified window version of the Normal animation that appeared in Lambs, See-Saw, Owl Babies, and the next two episodes, Feeding the Chickens and The Helicopter (which were the last two episodes), but filmed from slightly farther away.
  • This is the third and last episode not to include the scene with the Baby Sun when the Teletubbies go and watch the Dancing Bear. The other two are Painting with Hands and Feet and Larette Tap Dancing.
  • This is the first episode where we hear Po's scooter squeak. The other two are The Helicopter and Rolling.
  • After the Dancing Bear, a fade effect is used to transition to the Sun Baby before the Jumping Dance.
  • Tinky Winky is the boo shouter.
  • Po is picked for the TV Event.
  • Laa-Laa is the missing Teletubby.
  • This is the third episode to have the video segment filmed at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The other three episodes were The Grand Old Duke of York, See-Saw, and Hey Diddle Diddle.
  • The production for the video segment in this episode took place in 1996.
