Numbers: 1 (Version 1) is the 9th episode from Series 1 of Teletubbies and the show's 9th episode overall.

Plot[]

UK Version[]

Laa-Laa walks outside the Tubbytronic Superdome in Teletubbyland, and the Teletubbies run past each other, into each other, and round and round as they break out The Running Away Dance. A Voice Trumpet recites the nursery rhyme "Twiddle dum, twaddle dum, twenty-one", which makes Laa-Laa laugh. Then, The Magic Windmill in normal animation spins for the tv event, Laa-Laa runs off as the Voice Trumpet lowers. Then it cuts to the Teletubbies running to the hill in front of some trees called The 'Scary' Hill for watching The Magic Windmill spinning in normal animation, they say "uh-oh" and rush up, watching some children learning about the number 1. Then, they take turns wearing and dancing in the skirt. Laa-Laa makes Dipsy wear the skirt even though Dipsy doesn't want wearing it. She chases him until he wears the skirt. While he makes his dance, the skirt falls off him, and he runs away. Then it is time for Tubby Bye-Bye.

US Version[]

In Teletubbyland, the Teletubbies take turns wearing and dancing in the skirt. Laa-Laa makes Dipsy wear it even though Dipsy doesn't want to. Laa-Laa chases Dipsy until he wears the skirt. While Dipsy makes his dance, The skirt falls off him, and he runs away. The Magic Windmill spins from its Birds Eye View, and the Teletubbies watch some children learning about the number 1. Later, the Teletubbies take turns to stand on one leg. Afterwards, The Magic Windmill starts spinning, and the Teletubbies watch the carousel with The Tap Dancing Teddy Bear dancing once before The Magic Windmill stops spinning. And then it was time for Tubby Bye-Bye.

Trivia[]

  • This is the first episode with The Running Away Dance.
  • This is also the first Numbers episode.
  • This is the only episode where Dipsy wore the skirt, as he does not like wearing it instead of his hat. It also the only episode where Po wore the skirt.
  • This is the first episode where the Teletubbies Stand on the hill before the trees who called The 'Scary' Hill, and they say "Uh-Oh". This would later become commonly re-used stock footage. This is also the same location where they watch The Lion and Bear. In this episode the footage is flipped horizontally, while it remains unflipped in every other episode it appears in.
  • The Skirt segment was featured in the VHS Dance with the Teletubbies.
  • This seems to get been fully dubbed in French late during the show's initial run there based on how the characters were voiced in this episode.
  • The Skirt segment also gets an alternative French dub with slightly different dialogue and voice takes, which was used on the Dance with the Teletubbies. It is possible that it was initially the only segment from the episode to get a French dub, and that it was made specifically for this home video at the time.
  • Also, Laa-Laa was the chosen Teletubby for the TV transmission instead of Dipsy in the US Version.
  • Po was the boo shouter in the UK Version. Laa-Laa was the boo shouter in the US Version.
  • Tinky Winky was the missing Teletubby in both the UK and US Versions.
  • In the UK Version, just before The Running Away Dance, the Baby Sun makes a different-sounding laugh.
  • The Spanish version is called "Vamos a Construir" (We Are Going to Build/Let’s build) and features a much different video.
  • Clips from this episode can be seen in the Doctor Who episode, "The Sound of Drums", when The Master watches Teletubbies, and is amazed by the fact that they get televisions in their tummies.
