Nursery Rhymes is the 3rd special of Teletubbies home media releases. It was released on 2nd February 1998 by BBC and Ragdoll Productions and exactly one year later on February 9, 1999 in the US by PBS.

It was re-released in 2008 along with Musical Playtime (Silly Songs and Funny Dances in the USA) on the DVD Musical Rhyme Time!

Trivia[]

  • Dipsy was the boo shouter.
  • The missing Teletubby was Laa-Laa.
  • Some of the segments in the video were also featured in the audio tape Fun with the Teletubbies.
  • Like Dance with the Teletubbies, Simon Shelton only played Tinky Winky in one segment. That segment is The Happy Dance.
  • This VHS features the rabbits' song. It is used twice and both versions are short. The first time is a transition into Little Miss Muffet. The second time is a transition into the voice trumpets making clock-ticking sounds.
  • The first Voice Trumpet's "ding sound" when rising was added in the clock-ticking segment. The original television airing didn't have the sound.
  • In the German version, The Grand Old Duke of York video was replaced with the My Mum's Keyboard, and the Hickory Dickory Dock video was replaced with a different TV event. This is due to King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys not being shown in Germany.
  • Unusually, in addition to PBS P-Pals logos, the US VHS both opens and closes with Kellogg's Rice Krispies funding ad.
    • At the time of release, Kellogg's was the main funding spot for Teletubbies in the US.
  • For some reason, in the US version, the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star segment and The Gingerbread Boy changed places with The Grand Old Duke of York segments.
  • At the end of the Jack and Jill segment, the flowers commented on Dipsy and Laa-Laa's actions.
  • This is the first video to be released in 1998 and to have the 1997 to 2021 BBC logo and the 1997-2009 BBC Video ident, the 1997-2005/6 version of the BBC Tracking Control Screen and the 1997-2005/6 VHS version of the BBC Warning Screen.
  • Before The Magic Tree event, the Magic Windmill spins with the TV Event tune, as the episode originally had the rest of the Teletubbies play the Hey Diddle Diddle segment's ending and then Tubby Bye-Bye afterwards.
  • This video marks the first appearance of The Happy Dance, it later made its first television appearance in the 1998 episode, Looking for Rabbits.
  • The Gingerbread Boy appeared in this video before it aired on television.
  • Twinkle Twinkle Little Star also appeared in the US version of Swimming with Stephanie but with a different narration and voice trumpet voice.
  • Jack and Jill also appeared in the US version of Looking for Rabbits but with a female voice trumpet voice instead of a male voice.
  • Ride a Cock Horse also appeared in the US version of Emily and Jester, but with a different voice.
  • Somehow Norway is the only Nordic country that released this home video and it was never released in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland by Egmont Film and Nordisk Film.
  • This home video was not released in French, possibly because nursery rhymes-themed episodes were mostly skipped in this language.
  • The voice trumpet clicking segment was likely the very first Teletubbies segment ever made for the show (apart from the dances), due to the clip of the Trumpets in the intro being extended in a way, knowing that the intro was made very early in production.

Goofs[]

  • In the opening scene of the Magic Tree magical event, the shots of the Teletubbies arriving silently at the Magic Event area in Teletubbyland and the Magic Windmill spinning are swapped around more than normal.
  • On the Norwegian DVD Menu, the 2005-2006 Barnas Favoritter Star Icon is present but the DVD was released in 2004 one year before the Star icon was commonly used, and due to it being released in 2004, it will be redirected to the 2004 Barnas Favoritter Menu.
