The Up and Down Dance is one of the dances that the Teletubbies do. It was first shown in the episode Painting Easter Eggs. The Teletubbies do this dance inside the house near the Control Panel.

Plot[]

The dance starts as Tinky Winky puts his left foot up onto the step near the control panel and puts it back down on the floor to the rhythm. He repeats it a few more times as the other Teletubbies come stepping to the right and the left. Then, one at a time, they sit down on the step, and then they stand back up. They sit back down on the step, except Tinky Winky. They keep repeating this pattern a few times until they all stand up. Then, Tinky Winky goes over to the control panel and pulls one of the five levers up and down three times. Next, Laa-Laa also goes over to the control panel and slides the slider up and down also three times. Po jumps up onto the step near the control panel and jumps back down on the floor a few times. Dipsy also goes over to the control panel and presses each of the middle-coloured buttons that make funny noises. The dance ends as the Teletubbies walk to the left of the house and they keep jumping up and down the step near the control panel, except Tinky Winky, who jumps up and down the step without walking with the others. Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po turned around to him and Po whispered "Tinky". Then Tinky Winky joins the others as the dance ends.

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the three dances where the Teletubbies dance inside the house, the other two are The Follow The Leader Dance, and The Skipping Dance.
  • This is one of the two dances to feature the Teletubbies' mid-late 1997 costumes. The other is The Follow The Leader Dance.
  • In the TV series, the Teletubbies dance twice. After the other Teletubbies leave the first time, Tinky Winky stays where he is and does a small pose, then giggles, and starts dancing again. However, when they dance the first time, there are no percussion instruments used. The second time, percussion instruments are used.
  • In the Album version, the percussion instruments are heard for the first time. The second time, the music changes keys like the extended versions of other dances. (First time - E and F sharp major, Second time - G and A major)
  • There is a shortened version of the dance in the PBS Original Version of Ned's Bicycle. In this version, the percussion instruments are used and the Teletubbies giggling audio is taken from the Round and Round Dance and the Happy Dance and after the dance, the Sun Baby shrieks for Tubby Bye-Bye. That version was taken from the Sunday Special Version of Handy Hands.
