*The Teletubbies say 'Bye-Bye' and jump in the hole of the Tubbytronic Superdome, always in their usual order: Tinky-Winky (1st), Dipsy (2nd), Laa-Laa (3rd), and Po (4th). The Teletubby that says 'Bye-Bye' for the final time is always different from the boo shouter (the only episodes where they are the same are the colour episodes Red, Purple and Yellow). None of the episodes in the reboot (both the Nick Jr. and the CBeebies) have all four Teletubbies one by one (starting with the "Boo" shouter) pop out of the hole to say "Bye-Bye!" for the final time at the end of the episode; only one Teletubby does so like the original UK version and foreign language versions of the original broadcast version (aside from the Teletubbies Home Videos).

*Also, after the Sun Baby starts to set and the goodbye rhyme is recited, the Teletubbies (when going back to the Tubbytronic Superdome) seem less disappointed and reluctant than the original, but are more obedient. However, the ending of the reboot version, once the Sun Baby is set down, the screen will turn black instead of orange.

Moral of Story/How to Make Up Something You Miss
The moral of Tubby Bye-Bye is that all good things eventually must come to an end. You shouldn't outsmart on things you refuse to do when you have to do them, no matter how hard it is attempted. When someone (in this case, the announcer and voice trumpets) say it is time to do something, they mean it (in this case, they really mean it's time to say goodbye). You also shouldn't leave home like that without telling anyone. In this case, the narrator (in the beginning of "Tubby Bye-Bye") understands how the Teletubbies feel when they have to say goodbye, but he doesn't argue with the voice trumpets and the voice trumpet announcer about letting the Teletubbies continue their show. Both adults agree with the contract and when it is time to say goodbye. In fact, all episodes of TV series (from any network -in this case Teletubbies on PBS/BBC) have an end. If they are intended to be extended and/or kept around indefinitely, this is against the contract. The Teletubbies are disappointed and reluctant, but they (eventually obedient) -in the end- bid farewell to the viewers. They are forced to accept the feedback, but they know that they can always come back and play another day.

It is okay to lose to miss all good things when they have to come to an end, but they may always come back in a new form (at least in a new/following episode). The memories that we have enjoyed (at least from the previous episode) lives on (at least in a new/following episode and/or a rerun of an episode). This is how we can make up something we miss. As for the Teletubbies, they (in the end) are still disappointed that they have to end their show, but they know they can always come back and play another day. Playtime is postponed until the following episodes or videos. Also, while, the new/following episode comes to an end (like all episodes of the TV series), new episodes and/or reruns are always followed.

Even so, the original Teletubbies TV series, it was five seasons (118 episodes in Season 1, 126 is Season 2, 56 in Season 3, 30 in Season 4, and 35 in Season 5). Then reruns aired until August 2008. Then, it was followed by reboot series, which premiered in 2015. Both series are available on streaming services and the official YouTube channel.

Revision as of 12:03, 17 September 2021

Tubby Bye-Bye is the ending sequence to all episodes and videos of Teletubbies. There are two things that signify the start of Tubby Bye-Bye, like when The Magic Windmill stops spinning, even if there's no Magical Events available or the Baby Sun giggles, unless that would move on to another scene.

Original TV Series

TBB - No

This scene is taken from the original TV series version of "Tubby Bye-Bye" (USA/PBS, original UK/BBC, Canada, Australia, and foreign languages) along with the videos. The Teletubbies have stopped playing (as they are told to by the voice trumpets that it's "Time for Tubby Bye-Bye"). However, they sadly groan during the start of "Tubby Bye-Bye" because they aren't looking forward to say goodbye.

After Tubby Bye Bye For Life

Before Tubby Bye Bye

A voice trumpet rises to the right, faces straight (right at the Teletubbies), and announces, "Time for Tubby Bye-Bye!" three times. The Teletubbies are to stop playing, but they're not looking forward to ending the show. The Baby Sun lets out a giggle. As the narrator says "Bye-bye" in order to the Teletubbies (one by one), they each mimic and duck behind the hills (while the Teletubbies theme song plays on a piano and in C major). The show (at first sight) appears to be over, but then the Teletubbies try to outsmart the sequence, and a random Teletubby reappears saying "Boo" (followed by the others who do the same). The show (at second sight) looks like go on again, and the Teletubbies think it's a game. However, the narrator catches and warns the Teletubbies by saying a serious, long "No" (to which the Teletubbies mimic and giggle again) to clarify that it’s not a game and it's really time to say goodbye. After the Sun Baby giggles again, the narrator says "Bye-bye" to each of the Teletubbies again (while the Teletubbies theme plays again with more instruments and in E major), but this time the Teletubbies seriously obey the sequence without outsmarting it again. Then, the Baby Sun starts to set, while a voiceover says, "The sun is setting in the sky. Teletubbies say goodbye". As the Teletubbies have left their hiding places and head to the Tubbytronic Superdome, they -one after another (starting with the "Boo" shouter)- lead themselves to the house, climb to the top, and say “Bye-Bye” before jumping into the hole, as the end credits roll and an extended medley of the Teletubbies theme song plays (finally on even more instruments and in E major). As the Baby Sun sets, one Teletubby (the "Boo" shouter) reappears from the house's entrance hole, saying "Bye-bye" for a final time, before ducking back down into the house. As the show finally ends (much to the narrator's relief), the Baby Sun lets out one final giggle, disappears behind the hills, and reflects Teletubbyland with orange sunset light.

Teletubbies sadly groaning during the start of Tubby Bye-Bye (Reboot Series)

In the reboot TV series, the "Tubby Bye-Bye" segment wraps up all episodes, with some minor differences in Tubby Bye-Bye:

• The Reboot episodes always end with the windmill stop spinning.
• Daniel Rigby (the narrator in the 2015 reboot TV series) does the role.
• When the Voice Trumpet rises and announces 'Time for Tubby Bye-Bye', it only says it twice.
• When the narrator says "Bye-bye" to each Teletubby (for the first time before they outsmart the sequence), the instrumental version of the Teletubbies theme song plays in D major.
• After the Teletubbies duck down behind the hills, they do not giggle (Most likely to try to be more sneaky and outsmart the sequence more than they did from the original). When the Tubby Bye Bye fails, all 4 Teletubbies pop up to say "Boo!", their signature instrument plays a small music cue (Tuba for Tinky Winky, Marimba for Dipsy, Trumpet for Laa-Laa, and Piano for Po) (Most likely to immediately get the narrator's attention to catch them).
• After the Narrator and the Teletubbies go in a big, long, "No" in a slightly more flexible but even more serious tone, instead of saying 'Bye-Bye' to each Teletubby again, the Narrator says 'Bye-Bye Teletubbies' and all 4 Teletubbies at the same time say 'Bye-Bye' and duck down behind the hills together at the same time, but for the second time it was successful. This likely shows that the narrator really wants to get the sequence over with. Also, the Sun Baby doesn’t giggle after the Narrator and the Teletubbies say a big, long “No” before he says "Bye-Bye Teletubbies".
• The Teletubbies say 'Bye-Bye' and jump in the hole of the Tubbytronic Superdome, always in their usual order: Tinky-Winky (1st), Dipsy (2nd), Laa-Laa (3rd), and Po (4th).
• Also, after the Sun Baby starts to set and the goodbye rhyme is recited, the Teletubbies (when going back to the Tubbytronic Superdome) seem less disappointed and reluctant than the original, but are more obedient. However, the ending of the reboot version, once the Sun Baby is set down, the screen will turn black instead of orange.

Trivia

• In the USA/PBS version of the original TV series, there are unique differences in the "Tubby Bye-Bye" segment (including the "Boo" shouter part and the order of the Teletubbies saying "Bye-bye" at the Tubbytronic Superdome after the "Boo" shouter):
• In the USA/PBS version, a female announcer is in the Voice Trumpets, but a male for the UK, Canada, Australia, and other foreign languages of the original TV series.
• In the UK, Canada, Australia, and other foreign languages of the original TV series -aside from the USA/PBS version- the female voiceover says the goodbye rhyme -after the Teletubbies say "Bye-bye" for the second time behind the hills and are obedient about it- ("The sun is setting in the sky. Teletubbies say 'goodbye'".). However, in the USA/PBS version, Rolf Saxon (the narrator for the USA/PBS version) does the goodbye rhyme.
• In the USA/PBS version's TV series episodes where Laa-Laa or Po is the "Boo" shouter, there are differences:
• In the case with Laa-Laa as the "Boo" shouter, the Teletubbies voices (their "Bye-bye's") sound different. But in episodes with the other Teletubbies being the "Boo" shouter (Tinky Winky, Dipsy, or Po) their "Bye-bye's" sound the same.
• The Teletubbies outsmart the "Tubby Bye-Bye" sequence after being told "Bye-Bye" and are disobedient for the first time works the same way (as all episodes). The only difference is (in Laa-Laa's case) the Teletubbies's "Bye-bye" voices sound different in both of the two warnings. However, the Teletubbies (before outsmarting the "Tubby Bye-Bye" sequence) silently giggle before Laa-Laa says "Boo".
• In the case with Po as the "Boo" shouter, the Teletubbies do not giggle before Po says "Boo". But in episodes with the other Teletubbies being the "Boo" shouter (after the first warning and before the narrator says "No" and the second warning) the Teletubbies silently giggle before Tinky Winky, Dipsy, or Laa-Laa says "Boo".
• The Teletubbies outsmart the "Tubby Bye-Bye" sequence after being told "Bye-Bye" and are disobedient for the first time works the same way (as all episodes). The only difference is (in Po's case) the Teletubbies do not silently giggle before Po says "Boo". They are possibly trying to be more sneaky even though the conclusion is the same.
• In episodes -from the USA/PBS version of the original TV series- where Tinky Winky or Dipsy is the "Boo" shouter, everything remains the same. The Teletubbies's "Bye-bye" voices are the same (in the first warning), the Teletubbies silently giggle before Tinky Winky or Dipsy says "Boo!", and when the Teletubbies say "Bye-bye" --to be obedient for their second and last try-- their "Bye-bye" voices are the same (in the second warning).
• In the original TV series -the USA/PBS version- in episodes where a specific Teletubby is the "Boo" shouter, the orders -where jumping into the hole of the Tubbytronic Superdome and rolling the credits with the Teletubbies saying "Bye-bye" for the final time- of the Teletubbies vary (whichever Teletubby was the "Boo" shouter):
• Episodes with Tinky Winky as the "Boo" shouter: Tinky Winky (1st), Dipsy (2nd), Laa-Laa (3rd), and Po (4th)
• In episodes with Tinky Winky as the "Boo" shouter (Tinky Winky's case), this is the only time where the other Teletubbies say "Boo" in order after the "Boo" shouter. In episodes where Dipsy, Laa-Laa, or Po is the "Boo" shouter (Dipsy, Laa-Laa, or Po's cases), all the other Teletubbies after the "Boo" shouter (either Dipsy, Laa-Laa, or Po) are mixed around.
• Episodes with Dipsy as the "Boo" shouter: Dipsy (1st), Laa-Laa (2nd), Po (3rd), and Tinky Winky (4th)
• Episodes with Laa-Laa as the "Boo" shouter: Laa-Laa (1st), Po (2nd), Tinky Winky (3rd), and Dipsy (4th)
• Episodes with Po as the "Boo" shouter: Po (1st), Tinky Winky (2nd), Dipsy (3rd), and Laa-Laa (4th)
• Regarding to the original TV series, the end credits are different between the USA/PBS and the other versions (UK, Canada, Australia, and all foreign versions):
• In the USA/PBS version (American English broadcast) of the original TV series along with all version of the Teletubbies home videos, all four Teletubbies -one after another starting with the "Boo" shouter- climb the Tubbytronic Superdome, say "Bye-bye" and jump into the hole. As the Baby Sun sets and the end credits roll, the Teletubbies -again one after another (starting the "Boo" shouter)- all pop out of the hole (from the entrance -shown at the top of the house) to say goodbye for the second and final time.
• In the UK, Canada and Australia of the original TV series and broadcast -along with the other foreign language versions aside from the USA/PBS and the Teletubbies home videos- the "Tubby Bye-Bye" segments (prior to the final scene -which includes the Baby Sun's disappearance before ending the show) are all the same as in the USA/PBS version. This includes the voice trumpets (aside from the voice trumpet announcer between the USA/PBS and original UK, Canada, Australia, and foreign languages of the TV series) announcing it's time for "Tubby Bye-Bye" time, the Teletubbies groaning "No" because they are not looking forward to ending the show and episode but want to continue it, the Baby Sun's first giggle, the first warning (where the narrator says "Bye-bye" to the Teletubbies for the first time), the "Boo" shouter part, the narrator's serious "No", the Baby Sun's second giggle, the second warning (where the narrator gives the Teletubbies one more chance to try again and says "Bye-bye" to the Teletubbies for the second and last time), the Teletubbies being obedient about it for the second and last try, the Baby Sun descending from the sky, the goodbye rhyme (aside from the character who does the goodbye rhyme), the Teletubbies saying "Bye-bye" while climbing the Tubbytronic Superdome, and the Baby Sun's third (and "descending from the sky") giggle. However, the end credits is the only difference -only one Teletubby (the "Boo" shouter) says goodbye for the final time and ducks back into the house.
• But either way, the last scene in the end credits is the same (in all versions -USA/PBS, UK, Canada, Australia, and foreign languages). After the last of the four Teletubbies in line in the USA/PBS version says "Bye-bye" for the final time (or just the "Boo" shouter for the other versions, especially the standard UK version), the scene cuts to the now-setting Baby Sun. The final scene in the end credits is also the same. The Teletubbies have already gone home, wrapped it up (properly), and have gone to bed. As the show ends (much to the narrator's relief), the Baby Sun lets out one final giggle, disappears after her final giggles, reflects the sunset light in Teletubbyland, and the sky turns dark, then the Ragdoll Productions logo follows.
• Some videos, such as Here Come the Teletubbies, Dance with the Teletubbies, and Nursery Rhymes, have the Tubby Bye-Bye Tune with the Xylophone and Piano playing when all four Teletubbies (starting with the “Boo” shouter followed by the rest) pop up to say "Bye-bye" at the very end of the video. Other videos, such as Uh-Oh! Messes and Muddies (Funny Day in the U.S.), Big Hug, and Musical Playtime, have the tune but without the Xylophone and Piano playing. It can not be heard on Teletubbies: Favourite Games nor the USA/PBS broadcast.
• The Windmill is seen in its Start/Stop Spinning animation with the ground when the Teletubbies jump into the Superdome, spinning slowly without sparkles.
• In the USA/PBS version of the original TV series -before the credits roll- there are unique differences (which are not in the other versions of the original TV series; UK, Canada, or Australia, along with foreign language dubs):
• A female voice announcer is in the Voice Trumpet, and Rolf Saxon (the narrator for the USA/PBS version) says the goodbye rhyme and signs off to the Teletubbies. In the UK, Canada, or Australia, along with foreign language dubs, a male voice announcer is in the Voice Trumpet, and a female narrator says the goodbye rhyme and signs off to the Teletubbies
• All PBS Kids shows (on PBS) have a message in the end so viewers can find out more/learn more about the PBS Kids show (insert program name here). At the end of Teletubbies (on PBS) --not counting the Teletubbies Everywhere episodes-- a message at the end (so viewers can find out more/learn more about it) appears (plugging the website). This is before the end credits roll. On early airings/early episodes (through Fall 2000) the message reads, "To find out more about Teletubbies: PBS Online at www.pbs.org" (after the last Teletubby jumps into the Tubbytronic Superdome). In later airings/later episodes (starting from late 2000; Dec. 2000) and reruns (since Feb. 17, 2002), it reads, "To find out more about Teletubbies: PBS Online at pbskids.org or America Online Keyword: PBS Kids".
• The funding credits --after the Ragdoll Productions logo-- plays (usually the closing funding).
• Additionally, before that, after the Baby Sun does her final giggles and disappears, the last credit is shown. Then the Ragdoll Productions logo is shown.
• There is also a snowy version of the Tubby Bye-Bye segment used in the snow themed episodes. There are some differences between this version and the normal version. For example, the Voice Trumpet appears to be rising between hills, as opposed to rising from behind some flowers in the normal Tubby Bye-Bye. To add to that, the Voice Trumpet doesn't turn it's head like it does in the normal Tubby Bye-Bye. Finally, the Voice Trumpet is covered in snow, which, of course, is different from the normal version.
• In most of the snowy versions of the Tubby Bye-Bye segment, only one Teletubby (the boo shouter) pops out of the hole to say "Bye-Bye!" for the final time at the end.
• There are four episodes where the Teletubbies don't groan when it's time to say goodbye and just run out of the house. Those episodes are Herding Sheep, Numbers - 9, How Things Swim and Numbers - 2 (V2).
• There are three episodes where after the Voice Trumpet says "Time for Tubby Bye-Bye!", the Teletubbies say "Uh-Oh!" and rush to the location for the scene to begin. Those episodes are Flamenco Guitar, Animals: Snails and Naughty Duck.
• A shockwave game based on the Tubby Bye Bye sequence is taken from the CBeebies website in the very early 2000s. There is also a flash game on the 2004 PBS Kids site based on the same sequence. To play you click on the Teletubbies in any order you want (to practice saying goodbye), but the Teletubbies will shout "Boo!" to surprise you. In the CBeebies version of the game When the Teletubbies get too annoying, click the voice trumpet to get the narrator (Tim Whitnall) to force them to stay gone like in the show. In the PBS Version of the game, after they shout "Boo!" and outsmart the sequence, the narrator (Rolf Saxon) says the firm big "No" (which the Teletubbies mimic) despite the game repeating the sequence indefinitely (until you choose a different game).
